Items should be separated, rinsed, oil free, and flattened if possible
We currently can recycle these items:
Corrugated Cardboard (corrugation sandwiched between two layers) must be flattened and no boxes full of flattened boxes. There are 4 dark blue bins on the right as you enter the site. Place your corrugated items in them. The other "cardboards" or pasteboards are put into the Big Green Bin with the mixed papers. (We pay Allied Waste a small monthly fee to use these blue bins for corrugated cardboard and they pick up and recycle the cardboard) REMOVE ALL PLASTIC , STYROFOAM, ALL PACKING OF ANY KIND PLEASE!
Aluminum beverage cans Place them in the trash cans by the Waste Watcher Truck. Sale of your cans is our only means of income other than donations and fundraisers) Osage Beach owns the truck and pays the annual insurance cost. This is the only item for which we are paid. Please do not mix any other cans or aluminum items with your aluminum beverage cans.
Plastics # 1 & 2 - No engine oil bottles or any item with oily residue or aerosol cans can be taken. Empty your containers in the sorting bins by the volunteers. Take non-recyclables home please. Only items imprinted with #'s 1 & 2, rinsed clean!
Food cans with lids inside. Empty your containers in the sorting bins by the volunteers.
Glass - mixed colors, rinsed bottles and jugs only, remove lids, we collect the corks for others to use. Place in glass trailer bins.
(We pay a hauling fee to take the Plastic/Tin bin and glass trailers to Laclede Industries Sheltered workshop in Lebanon. Lake Ozark is helping with the glass trailer fee.)
Currently, we are selling $12 car wash tickets to have funds to operate thru 2010. Please think about using them for Christmas presents. Only our willing work is free. recycling is not!
Papers - mixed, phone books, catalogues, junk mail, hard & soft back books, layered cardboard/pasteboard such as cereal or cake mix boxes - flattened, shredded paper, newspaper, TP, towel rolls, magazines. NO wax cartons, coffee cups, foil, cellophane, spiral wire or plastic lined pet food bags or mailing envelopes, NO Corrugated Cardboard in the Big Green Bin. (Nestle Purina provides the bin and transportation using the paper to make kitty litter)
Veggie oil - Pour into barrel, take your container home (Go-Bio, a local company, provides the barrel and pays us. In 2 years we've collected only 1 barrel)
**** Note:
Occasionally, someone donates such things as car batteries, wheels, and some salable metals we can put on the truck with the cans. We are glad to have these things and will also try to find a home for some of your other usable stuff, but please ask before bringing to site.
To make your recycling easy for you and our volunteers:
We suggest that those with big loads of heavy items as glass and paper park near the BIG GREEN BIN (paper) or the GLASS TRAILER. Signs are posted. If you need help you may drive into the First Timers/ Handicapped lane by the volunteers. There is a sign posted here also.
It will save you time to look for the location of these bins before you unload your car. There are SIX stations.
Do not stop in the driveway after coming behind the shed. There are only parallel parking spaces on the lot. If there is space, you may park alongside the paper bin or the glass trailer. Please do not stop across the end, which blocks others.
We are waiting on gravel and new yellow parking lines. No dates yet.
Please park several feet off driveway and parallel.
